ITINERARY
WEDNESDAY 24 SEPTEMBER
Depart Australia
Flying from Australia today is your first step to peeling back the many layers of Japan – beautiful and contrary in equal parts.
Qantas flights from Australia arrive this evening (Air Inclusive Package only).
Arrive this evening into the welcoming embrace of the ultra-luxurious Mandarin Oriental. Your room is prepped for indulgence and a restorative slumber – tomorrow the city awaits your discovery.
THURSDAY 25 SEPTEMBER
Tokyo (Japan)
Japan is a bewildering mix of the ancient and ultra-modern, and no city embodies this more than Tokyo. From the Emperor’s
Imperial Palace to the serene reverence of Meiji Jingu Shrine, across to the buzzing neighbourhood of Shinjuku – set on a
ceaseless loop of colour and commerce. We also take in the Senso-ji Temple and the tightly packed shopping street of
Nakamise, the perfect place to pick up a souvenir of your visit to Tokyo.
Returning to our luxurious hotel there’s time to freshen up before attending a special welcome dinner this evening.
FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER
Tokyo
Walk around the glitz and glam of Ginza, with its mega departments stores and big-name brands. And from big shops we go to
big towers, at 634m the Tokyo Skytree is the world’s tallest tower – offering magnificent views over the metropolis.
After a delightful lunch we visit Ueno Park. With its vibrant gardens, tranquil ponds, and historic temples, Ueno makes for a
pleasant location for serene walks amid stunning seasonal colours.
SATURDAY 27 SEPTEMBER
Tokyo - Hakone
It’s time to escape the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, our road today leads to superb natural beauty of the Hakone region. Walk amongst the sculptures within the Hakone Open Air Museum and explore the volcanic area of Owakudani, with its steaming sulphur springs and hot rivers. A funicular ride provides extraordinary views across the valley and, weather permitting, across to Mt Fuji. A boat ride across tranquil Lake Ashi rounds out this day of scenic splendour.
This evening we rest our heads at a modern day ryokan. The hardest part of your time here will be deciding if you enjoy the privacy of your own outdoor bath or take to the hotel’s onsen. A special Teppanyaki dinner is shared with fellow travellers this evening.
SUNDAY 28 SEPTEMBER
Hakone - Kyoto
It wouldn’t be a trip to Japan without a ride on a bullet train. This morning we take the Nozomi Super Express, Japan’s fastest
bullet train, to Kyoto.
If Tokyo is the country’s capital Kyoto is its historic heart. This afternoon we visit the Golden Temple, appearing to hover
weightlessly over the impossibly still waters of the mirror pond. The manicured gardens surrounding the temple are also a
highlight. As with so many things in Japan, the delight is in the design, which is also true for Nijo Castle, which we also visit
today.
The next three nights are spent at the Ritz-Carlton, a luxurious urban resort with views of the Higashiyama mountains.
Dinner this evening is at our hotel.
MONDAY 29 SEPTEMBER
Kyoto
Today we explore the city. Walk trails around the Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its sunset coloured torii gates. Foodies will
be fascinated by the Nishiki Market, known to locals as ‘Kyoto’s kitchen’, it’s the place to shop for high end ingredients. We’ll
also visit the remarkable Gion shrine and the Buddhist Kiyomizu Temple, founded in 778AD.
A special Kaiseki Japanese dinner is planned this evening, with guest appearances from traditional geisha.
TUESDAY 30 SEPTEMBER
Nara
Discover the cradle of Japanese arts, literature and culture today with a full day visit to Nara. Predating Kyoto, Nara became
the country’s first capital in 710AD. A deeply rewarding place to visit, the city packs what are arguably Japan’s finest temples
and shrines into a small area. And if that isn’t enough to please, the free roaming deer are the cherry on top to a very special
day.
WEDNESDAY 1 OCTOBER
Kyoto - Yokohama
A bullet train returns us to Tokyo this morning, then it’s directly on to Yokohama. We waste no time discovering Japan’s second
largest city including the rose garden and views from Harbour View Park and the surrounding Yamate area, one of the only
areas foreign traders were permitted to live when Japan cautiously reopened to the outside world in the 1850s.
This evening we stay at the Intercontinental Pier 8 Yokohama – almost within arm’s reach of where we join Silver Moon
tomorrow.
We’ll dine at a nearby local restaurant tonight.
THURSDAY 2 OCTOBER
Join Silver Moon Sail 7.00pm
We come together for a harbourside lunch before embarking on the ultra-luxurious Silver Moon this afternoon.
Welcomed aboard with a glass of French Champagne your luggage is whisked to your suite, where your personal butler is
available to unpack… should you wish.
As with any meal aboard Silver Moon the choice is yours as to which restaurant you choose – and six of the eight restaurants
are at no additional cost.
FRIDAY 3 OCTOBER
Cruising
A day at sea is the perfect way to begin your Silver Moon odyssey, with a full day to unwind and explore all the ship has to
offer. Take a deep dive into the S.A.L.T. lab and learn local culinary techniques, meet fellow travellers for a coffee or cocktail in
the Panorama Lounge or pull up a poolside deckchair and just relax. You are spoilt for choice.
This evening come together with your Constellation Journeys team and fellow travellers for a pre dinner drink in the S.A.L.T.
bar before another premier dining experience.
SATURDAY 4 OCTOBER
Osaka – Arrive 8.00am Sail 11.00pm
Japan’s third largest city has thrown off its shackles and stepped out of the shadows to light up the sky with glaring neon signs
and a larger than life outlook.
As with all our shore excursions, we’ve chosen the best itinerary according to what most visitors wish to see. If you’re looking
for something different there are several other shore excursions to choose from at each destination (many of them included).
We drive from the pier to Shitennoji Temple, first built in 593 it’s one of the oldest temples in the country and an early example
of Japanese Buddhist architecture. Our next stop, Osaka Castle, played a key role in the unification of Japan in the 16th
century – the impressive building you see today was reconstructed after several fires.
This evening could be the perfect time to take in a performance in the Show Lounge.
SUNDAY 5 OCTOBER
Cruising
Another relaxing day at sea, soaking up the luxurious ship life. Pay a visit to the exhibitions in the Arts Cafe or book a cooking
class in the S.A.L.T Lab. If you’re seeking deep relaxation book yourself in for some pampering at Otivm Spa (additional cost).
There’s plenty to keep you entertained aboard Silver Moon but if you’re looking for company the Constellation Team love to
share travel stories over a coffee or meal.
MONDAY 6 OCTOBER
Hiroshima – Arrive 8.00am, Sail 6.00pm
While Japan and the western world have mended bridges, Hiroshima is a chilling reminder of the atrocities of war. This morning
we visit the Hiroshima Peace Park Memorial and Museum. The park honours the staggering number of people who lost their
lives at the end of World War II as a result of the atom bomb. The memorial and museum are equally devastating and life
affirming. Today is not to be missed and will remain with you for a long time.
TUESDAY 7 OCTOBER
Fukuoka – Arrive 9.00am, Sail 6.00pm
The country of Japan is an archipelago of around 7000 islands. Today we divert from the main island of Honshu and visit the
naturally blessed island of Kyushu, at Fukuoka. We drive through the scenic countryside to the Former Takatori Residence.
Once the home of a coal baron, the residence offers a fascinating insight into the coal boom and is a splendid example of
modern Japanese architecture.
We also visit a local kiln, which produces the famed Karatsu-yaki ware – one of Japan’s great tea ceramics, loved by masters
of the tea ceremony since ancient times.
Where will you dine this evening? You may wish to make a reservation at the French or Japanese restaurant – or join your
Constellation Journeys’ leader in the bar and make your way for another fine meal.
WEDNESDAY 8 OCTOBER
Busan (South Korea) Arrive 7.00am, Sail 6.00pm
Discover the culture, history and beauty of the city including a visit to the Busan Museum and the UN Memorial Cemetery,
honouring soldiers from 16 countries killed during the Korean War.
From history to the living present we take a walk through the bustling Jagalchi Fish Market. This bustling harbour-side market
stretches into the downtown area and acts as much as a social hub as a place to buy the freshest seafood and shellfish.
There will be time this afternoon to enjoy a dip in the pool or rooftop Jacuzzi. Perhaps it’s time to dine at La Terrazza this
evening, after all, you’re sailing on a ship with Italian heritage.
THURSDAY 9 OCTOBER
Nagasaki (Japan) Arrive 7.00am, Sail 6.00pm
Devastated in just seconds by an atom bomb, Nagasaki has emerged with a mission to promote global peace. Despite the
harrowing stories and unhealed scars, the city and its people are a symbol of hope and resilience. Hear the stories and honour
those lost and those that remain. Nagasaki is a poignant yet hopeful reminder why we continue to strive for peace.
FRIDAY 10 OCTOBER
Kagoshima – Arrive 8.00am, Sail 4.00pm
Kagoshima is our entry point for Mt Sakurajima, an active volcano with three peaks. Once an island, the lava flows of the 1914
eruption connected Mr Sakurajima with the peninsula. Volcanic activity fuels the natural hot springs – the perfect place to have
a foot bath. Peaceful views across the bay offer a contrast to the popping sounds coming from the crater.
SATURDAY 11 OCTOBER
Cruising
A final day in luxury aboard Silver Moon. Make the most of the many on board indulgences and enjoy a leisurely lunch with
newfound friends.
This evening we celebrate our epic exploration of Japan with dinner in the Atlantide Restaurant.
SUNDAY 12 OCTOBER
Yokohama - Disembark
After disembarking Silver Moon we head to Shibuya, the extremely hectic and much photographed pedestrian crossing.
We'll seek refuge from the buzz for lunch in a restaurant overlooking the street. This afternoon we visit Akihabara. Famed
for its huge electronics retailers, the area is now ground zero for Anime and Cosplay sub-cultures – popular with Japanese
youth but generally confounding to all others. Later we transfer to the airport for our Qantas flight home (Air Inclusive Package
only).
MONDAY 13 OCTOBER
Arrive Australia
Arrive into Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane today with connections to other cities.
